Dear Sir,
having read the very interesting above mentioned article in the Bangkok Post, I congratulate you for your excellent and promissing endeavour.
I visited your site which alas, I am unable to read being just a farang working rotations on PTTEP drilling rigs from the Sirikit area in Lan Krabu and Nong Tom.
I happened to stop in Nong Tom, opposite a temple, 500 metres from the Lang Krabue Sokothai junction at a small enterprise making dried fruit, crisps and chips. I bought some along with dried bananas. All the products were excellent and very much liked by the crew.
Carry on the good work, your idea is excellent and you are absolutely right about the packaging : why waste a good product when you can save with a more appropriate one ?
You mentioned the cost and selling price which might be an obstacle to expansion.
It is the same story everywhere : a salesman comes to your door and offers a product for Bt 50 when you know very well that you can find the very same one in a shop for Bt 20.
It is more expensive and you might consider sending one of your employees to go and buy it for you. How long will your employee take to go and buy the said product ? Who will do his work while he is away ? He might even have to use your car or motorcycle to go to the shop. Will he find the product right away or he might have to go from shop to shop until he gets it ? How much do you pay him per hour ? In the end your Bt 20 product might cost you Bt 150 in real terms.
How many people drive 50 kms for the sake of saving 3 satangs per litre of benzene when it costs them more to drive that far ?
I must say the Lan Krabue bananas and the various honey dried bananas I found in Nong Tom and Phitsanulok are so good that they never last long. I shall make sure to take some home along with Nong Tom dried fruit crisps.
Yours faithfully.
